nestled comfortably in the heart of barcelona is the absolutely gorgeous mandarin oriental hotel. with an asthetic that praises the concept “less is more”, this get-away was designed by spanish born patricia urquiola.
a masterpiece in simplicity.
when you hand someone a dollar, do you do it vertically or horizontally? dowling duncan (awesome name) believes we deal with money vertically more often, so much so, mr. duncan has taken it upon himself to redesign our currency. not only did he remix the layout he also replaced the faces that have appeared on our money as well.
oh the rappers would love this… “i got a pocket full of ‘dem obamas”
let the debates begin…

my grammie (grandma) at the end of each day would walk over to the fridge, open it and pull out a quart of miller high life. in my younger years i remember thinking, when i grow up i’m gonna drink miller as well. after my first sip that turned out not to be the case… however whenever i see it, i always think about grammie.
i ran across a great write up on this american classic and the marketing genius behind a “not so great beer.” i’d love to send this to grammie but she will only say “baby, i’m not foolin wit on intro-netz!” next time i’m in a bar, i’ll be ordering at least one miller high life (probably only after i’m good and drunk)
peep the article on miller here

roy zipstein snapped these unreal photos the venue for the upcoming 2010 world cup. the moses mabhida stadium located in durban, south africa is a photographers dream. here is a write up on the venue (courtesy of freshness magazine)
Dedicated to the legacy of Moses Mabhida, a union organizer ascended to lead the South African Communist Party through the dark days of Apartheid, the Moses Mabhida Stadium lives up to the grandeur Mabhida dreamed of for his nation. Astounding images from photographer Roy Zipstein forSPREAD Art Culture Magazine, it is one of five new venues built for these games. With capacity for 70,000 soccer fans, it is also one of the largest,. Shadowed by a majestic 1148-foot long arch at a height of 350-foot, a gesture of the once divided nation coming together. An added incentive, the arch doubles as an observation deck during off-game days, with funicular carts zipping tourists to the highest point. Teflon-coated sail, measured at 495,100 square-foot, acts as the roof. Some 1750 columns provide structural integrity along with natural ventilation in the form of cool cross wind from the Durban shoreline. Lead by German architectural firm von Gerkan, Marg and Partners, with Ibhola Lethu Consortium as project manager and Schlaic, Bergermann und Partner as structural engineer, construction started on April 1st, 2007 and completed on November 24th, 2009. The stadium will see its first FIFA World Cup game this Sunday, June 13th, as Germany go against Australia.
how i wish i could attend. if you will be in attendance let us know.. otherwise enjoy the games and these utterly majestic photos.

well this is oddly fascinating. polish design firm ah&oh have created perfume bottles based around literary pieces from their favorite authors.
one member of the design team says,
“At the begining we were concentrating on the idea of the scent itself. We found inspiration in the great, dark literature and distinctive, strong characters. We tried to describe the dark sides of men’s nature with line of scents named after famous writers…”
the poe bottle is hands down my favorite.
